exporting sequence with h.264 footage to quicktime doesn't work

Hello- I've been unsuccessful (for hours) in trying to export a 6min edit to quicktime movie. Have tried export to quicktime, tried, using compressor, tried the tips on changing the compressor settings (from this site) and it's not working. if there's a simple fix or a link to steps i can follow, i'd love to have it and am grateful!

The problem is almost certainly related to using H.264 clips. Final Cut will allow you to import H,264, and even to work with it, but somewhere along the line it will usually become problematic. So it should always be transcoded prior to import. In some cases that can be done using Log & Transfer. Otherwise, I'd use Compressor.

At the stage you are at, I'm not sure there is a guaranteed way to replace the H.264 with Pro Res. It's possible you may be able to do it using the Recompress function in Media Manager and creating a new project. Otherwise, your best bet may be to create the Pro Res versions of the clips and redo the project.

Good luck.

One thing to try is to make your sequence COMPRESSOR, ProRes. Go into the SEQUENCE>SETTINGS and look at the options. Lower left...COMPRESSOR. Change that to ProRes or ProRes LT, and then render the sequence. Now all that H.264 footage in the sequence will no longer be referenced by the sequence...the render files will be. So exporting should work.

If you can't change the settings that way...make a new sequence..change that to ProRes, then copy/paste the sequnce into this one...and render.

Yeah...H.264 LOOKING like it'll work in FCP 7 and earlier was a really big problem. Something FCX addressed. But yeah, it should have a warning of "Not a supported file type."
